Colombia hydropower dam levels stabilize
The aggregate hydroelectric dam level in Colombia stood at 56% of usable volume on August 31, the same level as at end-June, according to wholesale power market administrator XM.
"In August, aggregate storage, in general terms, is steady; however, Antioquia continues with deficit contributions... We expect to reach the summer with dams close to 60%," said XM general manager María Nohemi Arboleda.
Water flow for power generation in August stood at 82% of the historical average compared with 94.4% in July, due to the low contributions received for dams in Antioquia which were at 71% of the historical average last month.
Antioquia accounts for 35% of the installed capacity of the country's dams.
Hydropower represented 75% of August generation followed by thermoelectric plants with 18%, small plants and cogeneration with 6%, and the balance from imports, XM added.
