Chile joins Microsoft Government Security Program
Microsoft has reached a cyber security agreement with the Chilean government allowing the state access its software code in to help it identify potential vulnerabilities in its IT systems.
Chile will become the first Latin American company to join Microsoft's Government Security Program (GSP), joining the likes of Russia, China, the UN and NATO.
Created in 2003, the GSP provides national governments with access to source code for Microsoft products, transparency centers to work directly with source code, vulnerability and threat intelligence from Microsoft, technical information about Microsoft products and services and "GSP for Cloud" capability.
"Chile is a digital leader in the region and this agreement will allow it to know that the country is working on a reliable digital base and that if IT vulnerabilities were to arise they would be able to act on them in time to minimize damage," said Microsoft's CEO Oliver Flögel.
In April this year an inter-ministerial committee was set up to draw up a national policy on cyber security that will form part of the National Digital Agenda 2020 that was presented by President Michelle Bachelet on November 27.
