Red Hat: Open source use in Brazil to double by 2017
The use of open source solutions in Brazil is expected to double by 2017 in terms of revenues, according to US open source firm Red Hat.
The forecast was made by Gilson Magalhães, Red Hat Brasil country manager, who was speaking at the Red Hat Forum held in São Paulo.
Magalhães said it is "impossible" to think of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the need of enterprises to connect over 20mn devices without the use of open source solutions, according to a Red Hat statement.
Global infrastructure VP Jim Totton said traditional IT solutions are not able to meet growing digital demands, while open source allows the development of faster solutions for businesses.
At the event, Red Hat's solution architect senior manager Boris Kuszka underlined that almost 80% of the world IT budget goes to the maintenance of legacy systems, whereas only 20% is spent on innovation, and open source is one of the ways in which this gap can be reduced.
