Earlier this month, the World Bank announced it plans to approve US$3.3bn in loans to Colombia from mid-2003 to mid-2006, some US$125mn of which has been earmarked for water and sanitation initiatives.
The announcement speaks well of the Bank's outlook for Colombia, which despite its social problems has not seen foreign investment fall, according to the US Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration (ITA).
We therefore put the spotlight on Colombia this week, starting in Sucre department capital Sincelejo where local consortium Aguas de la Sabana began operating the city's water utility Empas.
