At a glance: Brazil’s onshore exploration rigs

Nine drill rigs have operated so far this year in Brazil’s onshore exploration blocks, according to data from oil and gas watchdog ANP obtained by BNamericas via the freedom of information act. 

Great Holdings’ Great 105 rig drilled in blocks REC-T-182 and REC-T-183, operated by Alvopetro, in the Recôncavo basin. 

The COOPER LTO 250-C rig drilled in block REC-T-183. 

The Great 120 (pictured) and 126 rigs drilled wells in Eneva blocks PN-T-67A, PN-T-69, PN-T-87, PN-T-102A and PN-T-103, in the Parnaíba basin, and REC-T-107 and REC-T-108, of Great Energy, which belongs to Great Holdings. 

Queiroz Galvão VIII, of the Queiroz Galvão group, drilled in Amazonas basin blocks AM-T-84 and AM-T-85, operated by Eneva. 

Cowan-02, of the Cowan group, operated in BGM Petróleo’s blocks ES-T-496 and ES-T-506 in the Espírito Santo basin. 

Meanwhile, the Imetame Energia 02 rig drilled in its owner Imetame Energia’s block ES-T-441 in Espírito Santo. 

And the National Oilwell Varco 750, of NOV, and PR 08 rigs sank wells in PetroRecôncavo’s block POT-T-702 in the Potiguar basin. 

EXPLORATION OVERVIEW 

According to ANP, there are currently 114 onshore exploration blocks contracted in Brazil, most of which are in the Recôncavo (32), Potiguar (23), Espírito Santo (19) and Parnaíba (18) basins.  

The main onshore operators are Eneva, with 24 blocks, Imetame (21) and PetroVictory (15).
