Snapshot: Brazil’s power transmission projects
Brazil has 644 power transmission projects underway, 80% of which are within or ahead of schedule and 13% are delayed, according to watchdog Aneel.
The rest have not had their status reported to the regulator.
Some 490 undertakings are classified as reinforcement projects and 154 as expansions.
CTEEP leads the ranking with 111 ongoing transmission projects, followed by Furnas (84), Chesf (64), CGT Eletrosul (48), and CEEE-T and Eletronorte with 47 each.
Furnas, Chesf, CGT Eletrosul and Eletronorte are subsidiaries of electric power holding Eletrobras.
Of the total, 179 are scheduled to be concluded in 2026. This year, 158 undertakings are planned to be delivered.
TENDERS
Brazil’s first power transmission auction of 2024 concluded a successful series of three major tenders that will result in investments of around 60bn reais (US$12bn).
In all, the winning companies have committed to building 17,055km of transmission lines and 19,440MVA of transformation capacity.
Scheduled for September 27, the second transmission tender of 2024 involves five lots of lines, totaling 848km and 1,750MVA.
Investments are expected to total 4.06bn reais. The lots cover seven states: Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
