Description:

Created in 1996, ANEEL is the Brazilian electric power regulator. Linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, it started operating in December 1997 and it is in charge of regulating the generation, transmission, distribution and trading of electric power; overseeing the granting of concessions, licenses and electric power services, either directly or through state entities; setting electricity prices; and settling disputes between companies and between companies and consumers. Headquartered in Brasilia, Distrito Federal, ANEEL also has to promote activities related to concession, license and authorization granting of electric power projects and services that the Federal Government performs.
