Description:

Bijao Electric Company S.A. de C.V. (Beco), a special purpose company formed by Honduran firm Cementos del Norte S.A. and Guatemalan cement producer Cementos Progreso S.A., operates the 60MW Bijao coal-fired thermopower plant in Honduras' Cortes department. The plant is comprised of two 30MW generators and began operating in 2015. It currently has 35MW generation capacity, 30MW of which are sold in the electric power market and the balance is used for the plant's operations. The company expects to eventually generate a total of 105MW, using three power plants.
