Description:

Boliden is a Swedish mining and metals company, with activities in exploration, mining, smelting and metals recycling. It has six mining operations; three located in Sweden, one in Finland and one in Ireland, in addition to five smelters; three located in Finland, two in Sweden and one in Norway. The company produces zinc, copper, lead, gold and silver as well as byproducts which are all supplied mainly to industrial clients in Europe, including steelmakers, copper product manufacturers, as well as the auto and construction industries. Boliden was founded in 1931 after the merger of Västerbottens Gruvaktiebolag and Skellefteå Gruvaktiebolag. Its corporate office is located in Stockholm and has commercial offices in Sweden, Denmark, UK and Germany. The firm's ownership is split mainly among Swedish, North American and British shareholders. Its two major shareholders are T. Roew Price (4.9%) and BlackRock, Inc. (4.9%). In 2014 it acquired a 100% stake in Kuhmo Nickel Ltd and in 2016 it took over the Finnish mine Kevitsa. It also owns stakes in KIP Service OY (46%), Aitik EcoBallast AB (50%), KB Aitik EcoBallast (50%) and Industrikraft i Sverige AB (20%).
