Description:
The Brazilian government's chamber of foreign trade Camex was formed in 1995 to formulate, coordinate and implement foreign trade policy. Camex is part of of the government council of the presidency and consists of six ministers, assisted by a secretariat. Three of the ministries – foreign affairs; finance; and development, industry and foreign trade – have the primary responsibility for implementing Brazil's trade policy under guidelines set by Camex. Its key functions include setting import and export tariffs; formulation of rules regarding trade remedies (antidumping, countervailing duties and safeguards); definition of rules on nomenclature of goods, labeling and rules of origin; and establishment of criteria for the negotiation of trade agreements.
