Brazil's Centrais Elétricas de Santa Catarina (Celesc) is a power holding company with distribution, generation and transmission assets in Catarina state, serving industrial, residential, commercial and rural markets. Celesc mainly operates through its two subsidiaries, Celesc consumer units located in 286 municipalities in Santa Catarina, in addition to Rio Negro, in Paraná, while the second operates 12 hydroelectric power plants, as well as other 6 power generation projects in partnership with other companies. Based in Florianópolis, the company was founded in 1955 as a state electricity company and was restructured as a holding in 2006 to comply with power regulations requiring that distribution assets be separate from other activities.
