The Regional Electricity Interconnection Commission (Comisión Regional de Interconexión Eléctrica, CRIE) is a public international law regulating entity based in the City of Guatemala which was created in 1996 by the Framework Agreement. CRIE must ensure a regulated environment to help a competitive Central American electric market, contributing to widen and guaranteeing a sustainable electric supply for Central America. The general objectives of the CRIE are: to enforce the Framework Agreement, and its supplementary instruments, regulations and protocols; to ensure the development, consolidation, transparency and well functioning of the market; and to promote competence among the market agents.
