Compañía Minera Caravelí began its operations in November 1991, when it acquired the mining rights and decided to install a Cyanidation Pilot Plant with activated carbon of 20 MT/day.
The company's mining deposits, whose exploitation dates back to pre-Hispanic and colonial times, are located in the district of Huanu-Huanu, province of Caravelí, department of Arequipa, at an average altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level. The mining concessions total an area of 11,000 hectares.
