Ecuador's state power generation company Compañía Electro Generadora del Austro Elecaustro S.A. owns operational plants in Azuay and Cañar provinces. Headquartered in the city of Cuenca, its generation portfolio includes the 26MW Ocaña I hydroelectric plant; the Manchángara hydroelectric complex, which comprises the 15.5MW Sr. Arturo Salazar Orrego (Saymirín) and 24MW Ing. Fernando Malo Cordero (Saucay) hydroelectric power plants, and the Chanlud and El Labrado dams; and the El Descanso thermoelectric plant, made up of four units of 4,800Kw each. Elecaustro was born in 1999 as a result of the spin-off of distribution firm Centro Sur C.A.
