Description:
Chile's state-owned Empresa Portuaria Coquimbo (EPCO) is dedicated to the administration and operation of Coquimbo port. It was constituted as an autonomous company on October 1, 1998. EPCO's infrastructure comprises two maritime docking sites, with a length of 378 meters, and a maritime area of about 50 hectares of sheltered waters. In 2016, repairs were completed to the passenger terminal and site 2 after an earthquake and subsequent tsunami damaged the port on September 16, 2015. The event has delayed an expansion to the port by concessionaire Terminal Puerto Coquimbo involving the construction of site 3, a 2.7ha promenade and 6,000m2 of warehouse storage space for copper minerals, which represented 78.5% of goods moved in 2015.
