Description:
Founded in 1998, Panama's state transmission company Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica S.A. (Etesa) operates high voltage power lines. With offices in Panama City, Etesa holds the extendable concession for high voltage transmission until 2025 granted by local public services regulator Asep. Its transmission system is formed by 3,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines with voltages of 115kV or higher and 14 substations. ETESA is a shareholder of Interconexión Colombia-Panamá, a company working on a transmission line connecting Panama and Colombia; Empresa Propietaria de la Red (EPR), in charge of Central America's power transmission network, and Red Centroamericana de Fibra Óptica (REDCA), the operator of the fiber-optic network built into the Regional Transmission Network. ETESA is working on a new transmission project, the 500kV Chiriqui Grande - Panama III transmission line, that is expected to come online in 2025.
