Italian power giant Enel S.p.A. is engaged in the production, distribution and sale of electricity and gas. The firm operates in more than 30 countries, generating power from over 96GW of net installed capacity and distributing electricity and gas through a network spanning around 1.9mn km. Enel, with its 61mn end users worldwide, has the largest customer base among its European peers. Enel is a major player in the Latin American power market, where its subsidiary Enersis S.A. is one of the leading private sector utilities both in terms of installed capacity and number of clients. Enersis' subsidiaries operate in five countries, with nearly 17GW of installed capacity from thermal, hydro and other renewable power plants and serves 14.6mn customers. In the generation sector, Enersis owns and operates 4.4GW in Argentina, 1.0GW in Brazil, 6.3GW in Chile, 3GW in Colombia and 1.9GW in Peru. In the distribution sector, the group is present in Brazil's Ceará and Rio de Janeiro states, and in four of the largest cities in South America: Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Santiago and Lima. In the transmission sector, Enersis operates an interconnection power line between Brazil and Argentina. In addition, Chile and Brazil, along with Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama and Mexico, host approximately 1.7GW of wind and hydroelectric plants operated by EGP Latin America Ltda.
