Description:
Ferrocarril del Sureste S.A. de C.V. (Ferrosur), part of the rail transport unit IMT of Mexican conglomerate Grupo México, was established in 1998 to serve the southeastern regions of Mexico. The company operates the rail line between Mexico City and the country's Atlantic port at Veracruz. Grupo México, which controls 74% of Ferromex, agreed to acquire Ferrosur in December 2005. The 10,500km combined network of Ferromex and Ferrosur covers roughly 81% of the country, with connections at the Mexico-US border and both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
