South Korea's Hyundai Rotem is a manufacturer and supplier of railway systems and vehicles, including high speed trains, locomotives, passenger cars, light rail vehicles and freight wagons. It also provides maintenance and repair services, and modernization of rolling stock and related parts, as well as engineering support and consultancy. The company also offers engineering, procurement and construction services for the development of industrial facilities and, finally, it conducts business in the defense systems area. Hyundai Rotem was formed in 1977 as Hyundai Precision Industry and adopted its current name in 1999 following the merger of its rolling stock division with the railway business of Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction and Daewoo Heavy Industries & Machinery. The company is part of Hyundai Motor Group. Based in Seoul, it has production facilities in Changwon and Dangjin, and an R&D center in Uiwang. In Latin America, it has offices in São Paulo.
