Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (HDEC) is a Seoul-based general construction company established in 1947, a subsidiary of South Korean Hyundai Motor Group. HDEC's business segment encompasses civil and environmental engineering, construction, housing, and nuclear and electric power plants. Some of HDEC's operations in Latin America include the Puente Chacao consortium, made up of 50% HDEC, Brazilian firm OAS (49%) and Norwegian-French conglomerate Systra-Ass Jakobsen (1%). The consortium is responsible for the design and construction of the Chacao bridge in southern Chile. Construction of the four-lane, 2.75km bridge is expected to finish in 2025. In Colombia, the company - in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development and the Korea Environment Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI) - designed a master plan to improve sewage treatment facilities and plumbing maintenance in the department of Cauca; and in Uruguay, the company was part of the consortium in charge of building the Punta del Tigre combined cycle thermoelectric plant, owned by the state company UTE, which began operations in 2019.
