Description:
Costa Rica's state-owned rail authority Incofer is an independent statutory corporation established in 1985 to operate the country's railway network. It offers passenger services through four rail lines spanning approximately 80km and connecting the cities of San Jose, Cartago, Alajuela, and Heredia in Costa Rica's Greater Metropolitan Area. It also moves cargo such as steel, paper and cardboard, bananas, among other items. In 2017, Incofer rolled out a mobile application that provides trains fees, schedules, and routes. The authority is planning the purchase of eight new trains, as well as conducting an overhauling program for the Greater Metropolitan Area's entire rail system. Incofer is headquartered in San Jose.
