Isagén S.A. E.S.P. is a Colombian state generator engaged in the generation and marketing of electricity, both domestically and internationally. The Medellín-based company has an installed capacity of 3,032MW, accounting for 16.7% of Colombia's total installed capacity and making it the country's second largest generator. Isagen owns six hydro plants, San Carlos (1240 MW), Amoyá (80 MW) Calderas (26 MW), Jaguas (170 MW), Sogamoso (820MW), and Miel I (396 MW), and thermo plant Termocentro (300 MW). The company has several projects which are being studied, including hydroelectric initiatives Cañafisto (937MW), Piedra del Sol (156MW), Rio Patía (1.650MW), and Andaquí (687MW), the La Guajira wind farm, and the Macizo Volcánico del Ruiz geothermal plant. Isagen is also involved in the Tufiño-Chiles-Cerro Negro binational geothermal project, promoted by Ecuador and Colombia to boost the geothermal potential of the Chiles volcano, located in the border of both countries. In 2016, Isagen went through a process of privatization when the Canadian company Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners acquired 57.6% of its shares for US$ 2,2bn.
