Description:
Oxiteno, the chemical unit of Brazilian gas and petrochemicals holding company Ultrapar, is the largest producer of ethylene oxide and derivatives in Latin America. The company has 11 production facilities in Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay, the US, and operates Latin America's largest ethylene oxide plant at Camaçari, Bahia, where it also manufactures surfactants, ethylene glycols, ethanolamines and glycol ethers. It is also a significant producer of specialty chemicals and products used in cosmetics, detergents, crop protection chemicals, packaging, textiles and coatings. Through its history, the company has made investments to increase its footprint in the region, as well as to expand its production capacity and modernize its facilities. Oxiteno concluded the expansion of its ethoxylate and ethylene oxide units at Camaçari in 2010 and 2011, respectively. It acquired Mexican firms Canamex (2003) and Union Quimica (2007), Venezuela's Arch Andina (2007), Uruguay's American Chemical (2012); and a specialty chemicals plant in Pasadena, California (2012). Founded in 1969 and based in São Paulo, Oxiteno has sales offices in Argentina, Belgium, Colombia and China.
