Description:

Salobo Metais SA, a subsidiary of Vale SA, participates in the exploration, exploitation, processing, transportation and commercialization of metallic minerals, mainly copper and gold. The company's main asset is the Salobo mine, in Carajás, in the state of Pará. The open pit mine and the Salobo I processing plant have been operating since 2012. In 2016, the company completed the Salobo II expansion project that raised the total production capacity to 197,000 tons per year of copper concentrates. The production is transported to a storage terminal in Parauapebas by road and then to the Itaqui port, in São Luís, by rail. Salobo Metais has an indefinite concession of the mine, but the reserves are expected to be completed in 2051. The Salobo III expansion project will begin operations in the first half of 2022.
