Sojitz Mexicana S.A. de C.V. (SOMEX) is the Mexican subsidiary of Japanese trading and investment company Sojitz Corporation (Yonden) and the local office of Sojitz Corporation of America (SCA). Founded in 1969, SOMEX is divided into nine business units —automotive, infrastructure and environment, energy, metals and coal, chemicals, food and agriculture, lifestyle commodities and materials, and retail. The company has four subsidiaries or affiliates: AES Merida III, a power generation company that operates the AES Merida III CCGT plant; NM Power Mexico and NAI Azteca, both engaged in power generation projects investment; and CPC Sojitz Minería, engaged in mining, processing, and sale of high purity baryte. In 2016, Sojitz and Japan's Maruzen Showa Unyu Co. established the Mexican joint venture, Sojitz Maruzen Logistics Mexico S.A. de C.V. (SMLM), to provide domestic transport and logistics support. Sojitz Mexicana is headquartered in Mexico city.
