Structural Steel Works, Inc., (SSW) was founded by engineer José Aguayo in March 1968. Like many American manufacturers, the company began as a one-stop shop manufacturing various steel and erecting small structures. In the following years, the company's growth was paralleled by a growing demand for steel as a construction material in Puerto Rico, a market previously dominated by reinforced concrete. By the early 1980s, SSW had grown to a 30,000 square foot shop and established itself as one of the most reputable steel contractors on the island.
