Brazil’s GDE Geração de Energia studying new LNG project
Brazil’s GDE Geração de Energia is studying building a natural gas regasification terminal in northern Pará state, a source familiar with the matter told BNamericas.
The projected investment by the group’s Dislub Equador company is 1.5bn reais (US$242mn).
The plan is to install a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) with capacity of 14Mm3/d on the banks of the Amazon in the municipality of Almeirim.
The terminal will be connected via a 600m pipeline to the GDE Pará I (Termelétrica Jurupari) plant, construction of which depends on winning a tender to be held by electric power watchdog Aneel.
In addition to supplying the thermal plant, the terminal will provide compressed natural gas or LNG to the region's vehicle and industrial markets, respectively.
The deadline for completion of the terminal is approximately 52 months. Depending on the outcome of the Aneel auction, construction of the site should begin early 2026 and commercial operations in another 40 months.
The regulator is expected to hold a backup capacity tender in 2025.
Dislub also has LNG terminal projects in the states of Maranhão and Amazonas.
