Ecuador advancing power regulatory revamp

Ecuador’s power sector watchdog Arconel has published three new draft regulations to update the power public services organic law following the issue of the latter’s regulation in August.

One proposal would further define the role of distributed generation, which may reach an important level of integration and require greater planning, especially by distributors, according to the regulator.

The government agency highlights that it and the energy and non-renewable natural resources ministry have received several inquiries from the private sector regarding such projects.

The other draft regulations cover commercial transactions, and capacity planning, dispatch and operation.

Arconel will accept comment on the documents, available here, through the first week of January.

Days earlier, the watchdog published draft regulations for distribution and commercialization, and electromobility.
