Nokia targets Argentina's ISP segment
Finnish telecom technology provider Nokia has partnered with Argentine company ISP Group to enter the small and medium-sized internet service provider (ISP) segment.
"Nokia wants to be present in a segment that is necessary for filling the coverage gaps that Argentina has," country manager Fernando Sosa told BNamericas.
Today there is an unmet demand among ISPs, which number around 2,500 in Argentina, according to Sosa.
The executive said that Nokia has been well received in the ISP segment and it expects to have two contracts signed before the end of the year.
“Our portfolio will adapt perfectly to the scenarios we see ISPs needing to cover.”
The company will offer a portfolio of fixed, mobile, IP and optical network products designed to support the operations of ISPs.
Nokia is betting on operators choosing it for the security features of its products.
This is not Nokia's first foray into the segment. In 2019, it partnered with Brazilian distributor WDC Networks to target the same kind of companies.
“We have done this previously in Brazil with great success, with the same model, the same way of approaching ISPs,” Sosa said. “We have contracts with very important ISPs in Brazil.”
Recently, the company announced that it was selected by K2 Telecom Brasil to provide solutions to strengthen the security of its network.
Outlook
Sosa said he has “very high” expectations for the Argentine market in 2025 due to the expected economic recovery.
“The expansion will surely lead to investments.”
Although the economy fell into recession this year, Nokia has had a 2024 with “interesting” growth.
Next year it expects double-digit growth, driven by investment in 5G by major operators, the new focus on the ISP segment, and growth of private networks, said Sosa.
Nokia has signed an agreement with Claro for the deployment of 5G in Argentina, and it is a leading private networks player with around “a dozen” networks deployed.
According to Sosa, investment in the mining and oil and gas industries will lead to greater demand for telecommunications projects.
