Odata expands Brazil footprint with launch of new São Paulo datacenter

Aligned Data Centers' Brazil-based Odata launched a new datacenter in São Paulo to bolster its ability to serve hyperscale clients and large data storage customers.
Located in the São Paulo metropolitan region city of Osasco, SP04 is projected to have 48MW in total IT capacity and demand 2.6bn reais (US$458mn) in capex upon completion of all its phases.
Odata did not reveal the capacity for the first phase but a company spokesperson told BNamericas that much of the mission-critical equipment for the total amount has already been installed.
The official opening of the site is scheduled for early April, around nine months after Odata broke ground on the project. Construction works were carried out by Fonseca & Mercadante and engineering design by LZA.
SP04 adds to three other Odata datacenters in the area – SP01, SP02 and SP03 – and to the RJ01 site in Rio de Janeiro, all of which are operational. SP04 will also feature the Delta Cube (Delta³) air-cooled solution developed and patented by Texas-based Aligned.
The cooling manufacturing, with technology designed to capture and remove heat at its source, is being done by Swedish firm Munters at a plant in Araucária, Paraná state.
Munters is a long-standing supplier of Aligned sites and specializes in air and liquid cooling solutions for datacenters and industrial humidity control, with a focus on energy efficiency. It competes with Schneider Electric, Vertiv and Stulz, among others.
"We are very proud to operate with 100% energy from renewable sources and self-production in Brazil, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to sustainable and responsible energy practices. That is why we are always looking for ways to maximize our services and promote sustainability," Odata CEO Ricardo Alário said in a statement about SP04.
"In this scenario, the Delta³ solution adds to our portfolio by offering our customers rapid scalability, technological innovation and the highest standards of energy efficiency," he added.
In February, Odata powered up 200MW in IT capacity at its QR03 Mexico datacenter in Querétaro, the largest such project currently under construction in the country.
The energization process consisted of the activation of the substations and transmission lines that will supply the Querétaro campus.
"We did it in a very good timeframe and solved a problem that many other companies have been facing in the country, which is securing power to the datacenters in Querétaro," Alário told BNamericas at the time.
Since its arrival in Mexico in 2020, Odata has announced four datacenters, two of which are operational – DC QR01 and DC QR02 – and two under construction– DC QR03 and DC QR04.
Elsewhere in Latin America, Odata has two datacenters in operation in Chile and one in Colombia, with two more Colombian sites under development.
