With the start of operations of Petrobras’ Sepetiba FPSO on December 31, Brazil has 43 such vessels active, according to data from oil and gas watchdog ANP reviewed by BNamericas. 

Twenty-five are producing in the Santos basin, off the country’s southeast coast, followed by the Campos (16) and Espírito Santo (2) basins. 

Some 34 FPSOs are installed in Petrobras-operated fields. The remaining production units are in assets operated by PRIO (3), 3R Petroleum (1), BW Energy (1), Equinor (1), Karoon (1), Shell (1) and TotalEnergies (1).

The Brazilian state-run firm is also the main owner/operator of FPSOs in the country, with 16 units in its portfolio. 

Japan’s Modec has 11 FPSOs operating in Brazil, followed by SBM Offshore (7), Ocyan/ Altera Infrastructure (3), PRIO (3), BW Energy (1), Equinor (1) and Yinson (1). 

The FPSO with the highest oil output capacity is Petrobras’ P-54, which is able to produce 190,000b/d. 

The Sepetiba FPSO is the one with the highest gas production capacity at 12Mm3/d.
