13 groups comment on Costa Rica 5G tender draft

A total of 13 companies and institutions submitted comments and expressed interest in the draft bases for Costa Rica’s 5G tender.

A list regulator Sutel emailed to BNamericas showed state telco ICE and private operators Liberty and Claro submitted comments.

Organizations 5G Americas, GSMA, Asiet, satellite operator association GSOA, providers Qualcomm and Ericsson, as well as Telesat, Coopesantos, Ciber Regulación Consultores and the science, innovation, technology and telecommunications ministry also provided input.

"Right now, the information is being reviewed to respond and subsequently make any adjustments to the poster or specifications," a Sutel spokesperson said.

Costa Rica plans to auction nine blocks of 5MHz in the 700MHz band, four blocks of 50MHz in the 2300MHz band, 10 blocks of 20MHz in the 3300-3500MHz range, one block of 20MHz and one block of 5MHz in the 3600-3625MHz range, 12 blocks of 100MHz and one of 50MHz in the 26GHz band and up to 20 blocks of 100MHz in the 28GHz band.

The new tender will favor infrastructure deployment over monetary collection.
