The Bogotá Aqueduct and Sewerage Company (EAAB) advances with its works plan to modernize the public service networks that improve the reliability of the water supply and guarantee a better performance of the rainwater and sanitary drainage networks.
EAAB has been using modern technology to rehabilitate sewerage pipes through the SWLP EX system that introduces the new pipe on the existing network through a powerful machine that avoids digging trenches in the city streets, this in order to reduce the intervention times of the work fronts and avoid impacts on mobility and citizens.
“The figures for renovation of aqueduct, sewerage and stormwater networks throughout the city have been marathon and with important results for Bogotá. We have renewed 119 kilometers of aqueduct networks; 68 kilometers of sanitary sewerage networks and 35 kilometers of storm sewerage. In the same way, we have advanced in the construction of 11 kilometers of aqueduct networks, 20 kilometers of sanitary sewer networks and 9 kilometers of storm sewer networks,” executive Noel Valencia said.
One of the points currently intervened by the EAAB is in the Andes sector, a neighborhood located between the towns of Suba and Barrios Unidos and which, due to its densification in recent years, required expanding and renewing the public service networks.
In these works, the Bogotá Aqueduct and Sewerage Company (EAAB) invests $36 trillion in the installation of 1.6 kilometers of aqueduct networks, 10.9 kilometers of sanitary sewerage and 4.5 kilometers of storm sewerage so that Andes have a modern and efficient infrastructure.
The works already have 15% progress in their execution and when they enter into operation in the second half of 2024 they will bring, among others, the following benefits:
• It will improve the hydraulic behavior of the networks.
• It will optimize the water supply in the sector, improving the pressure and reducing the risk of damage to the pipes.
• It will allow the separation of rainwater and wastewater, which will reduce bad odors and clogging of sewerage pipes.
Noel Valencia, general manager of the EAAB, during an inspection visit to these works, accompanied by the community, stated that the EAAB within its "sustainable modernization program executes projects that guarantee and improve the provision of water and sewer system for Bogota citizens of the present and the future".
