Last Monday, November 13, the Regional Council of La Araucanía unanimously approved the project designed by theUndersecretary of Telecommunications, Última Milla, within the framework of the Zero Digital Gap Plan. The initiative seeks to provide digital connectivity to the most isolated locations in the region. For this reason, together with the regional governor , Luciano Rivas , it was determined to guarantee mobile telephone and data services, fiber optic extensions and high-speed Internet to 65 locations in the region, which means an investment of more than 14 billion pesos by the Regional Government.

Although the approval of the project is the first step for its implementation, which consists of different stages of execution, it is an important signal in terms of strengthening regional development through digital connectivity.

“As a Government we assume the commitment to improve the quality of life of people throughout Chile and that commitment includes the decentralization of opportunities and territorial equity . Through digital connectivity, the region of La Araucanía will be able to access more opportunities for its inhabitants, at the same time that it will see how digitalization will enable a series of economic and security benefits, among others. The approval of this project is very good news for the residents of the 65 benefited localities, but also in terms of investment, since high-speed networks will be deployed in different parts of the region," said the undersecretary of telecommunications, Claudio Araya.

Along the same lines, Seremi Mary Valdebenito said that, “digital connectivity is a tool that is becoming more and more necessary and being able to announce that those people who live in the most remote areas of the region will be able to count on these services is a great news that will undoubtedly bring many benefits to the neighbors, but also to the region as a whole. SUBTEL and the Regional Government are making important efforts to advance the strengthening of the region and the approval of this project is an example of that.”

In this way, the La Araucanía region joins the other 10 regions of the country that have already approved their respective projects: the Tarapacá region ; AtacamaCoquimbo ; O'Higgins ; the Maule ; Ñuble ; The Rivers ; The Lakes ; Aysén and Magellan .
