80% progress presents Minas de Huascachaca, the largest wind project in Ecuador

The Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources, through ELECAUSTRO, advances in the construction of the 50 MW Minas de Huascachaca Wind Project. The work, located in the province of Loja, is 80% complete according to the comprehensive planning of the project. It is executed with an investment of USD 90,000,000, financed by the Bank of the State of Ecuador and the Generator's own funds.

With the start-up of this wind project, 76,625 tons of CO2 will be reduced per year, through the production of 126,325 GW.h of average annual clean energy. In addition, in the different stages it has generated 360 jobs.

Minas de Huascachaca comprises two phases; The first, which is now completed, contemplated the construction, improvement and adaptation of the roads, from the derivation of the Girón - Pasaje road, the Puente - Uchucay road, the bridge over the Jubones river and the waste dump of 6.5 km of roads, including the bridge.

In the second phase, on June 27, ELECAUSTRO and the Electric Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP) TRANSELECTRIC Business Unit, energized the La Paz and Uchucay Substations, in addition to the Transmission Line, which constitutes the future interconnection of the Wind Farm Huascachaca Mines.

At the moment, the supply, construction and commissioning of the 50 MW Minas de Huascachaca Wind Farm is underway, for the 14 wind turbines of 3,571 MW each, access roads on axis three, platforms and foundations for wind turbines.

Likewise, as part of the Territorial Development Program, ELECAUSTRO supports the communities in the areas of influence, in accordance with the policy of the Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources. Through inter-institutional cooperation agreements, studies, designs and improvement of roads have been launched, support on issues of sustainable productive alternatives, delivery of agricultural inputs, hydrosanitary works, among others.

Complying with the guidelines of the Government of the Meeting, this State Portfolio, through its attached units, promotes the generation of clean and environmentally friendly renewable energy for the benefit and development of all Ecuadorians.
