AZVI wins 15yr Arica airport concession

Bnamericas
Chile's public works ministry awarded Consorcio AZVI Chile Tuesday a 15-year concession to operate northern Region I city Arica's Chacalluta airport, the ministry reported. AZVI beat out the Icafal-Tecsa-AAC-Senarco-Cosalco consortium, the only other group to submit a bid last month out of a total of six pre-qualifiers. The contract involves investing some US$10mn to modernize and expand the passenger terminal to 4,125 sq. m. from 2,500 sq. m. Chacalluta receives domestic flights as well as international flights from Argentina, Bolivia and Peru, with traffic expected to increase to 270,000 passengers/y from the current 200,000 by 2005, and to 400,000 by 2010, according to the ministry. The project falls under the ministry's US$1.93bn, 2003-2004 concessions portfolio.
