Academic urges more tech exports

Mexico has trained and creative engineers capable of significantly boosting technology exports, local paper El Economista quoted Hector Salgado, dean of Guadalajara University's science and engineering center (CUCEI), as saying. "We need to export more technology and be more competitive," Salgado said. "The only way to do that is through creativity." US hardware company Hewlett Packard recently awarded CUCEI a US$140,000 grant to develop mobile telephone software for educational purposes, he said. Mexico exports some US$40mn in technology a year, compared to the US' US$36bn.
