Alstom signs US$16mn turbine supply contract

Bnamericas
French equipment supplier Alstom has signed contracts totaling 45mn reais (US$16mn) to supply eight turbines for the construction of three small-scale hydroelectric power projects in Brazil's center-west state of Mato Grosso, Alstom said in a statement. The turbines will be used by engineering firms ICAL and Koblitz for the construction of the Garganta da Jararaca, Paranatinga II and Canoa-Quebrada projects, which combined have installed capacity of 90MW. Alstom expects this and other contracts to mark an upturn in the equipment supply market in Brazil this year following economic recovery and the approval of the government's renewable power source incentive program. The program includes the construction of 1,100MW in small hydroelectric plants.
