Arce: CTEEP must be privatized to solve Cesp debts
Bnamericas Published: Thursday, May 05, 2005
The privatization of São Paulo state-controlled power transmission company CTEEP is the only way to solve the debt problems of state generation company Cesp, according to Mauro Arce, São Paulo state government energy, water resources and sanitation secretary. Cesp's debts total 10bn reais (US$4bn). This is the first time the privatization of CTEEP has been publicly stated by Arce as a solution to Cesp's debts. Arce also said that on Monday Cesp paid US$120mn in eurobonds abroad. "If it hadn't paid, it would have looked bad for Brazil," he said.
