Bnamericas
Two of the six pre-qualified groups to upgrade and operate Chilean Region I city Arica's Chacalluta airport submitted offers Thursday to the public works ministry. The two groups were Icafal-Tecsa-AAC-Senarco-Cosalco and Azvi Chile, while Belfi, Besalco-Arauco, OHL and Consorcio E.I.A. did not submit offers. The technical offers were opened Thursday and economic offers will be opened December 16. The contract involves investing some US$10mn to modernize and expand the passenger terminal to 4,125 sq. m. from 2,500 sq. m., as well as its operation for 10 years. Chacalluta receives domestic flights as well as international flights from Argentina, Bolivia and Peru, according to the ministry, with traffic expected to increase to 270,000 passengers/year from the current 200,000 by 2005, and to 400,000 by 2010. The project falls under the ministry's US$1.93bn, 2003-2004 concessions portfolio.
