Authorities commit US$3.32mn to IT center

Chile's Region V government and state science and technology board Conicyt have agreed to commit 2bn pesos (US$3.32mn) to build an IT and communications center in the port city of Valparaiso, El Mercurio de Valparaiso reported. Each institution will contribute 1bn pesos, Valparaiso's regional development committee chairman Manuel Tobar told the paper. The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is also expected to contribute to the project. JICA told BNamericas it is still analyzing its contribution, although the paper reported that it will be around US$5mn.
