BA's Corredor Verde del Oeste construction begins

Construction of the first stage of the Corredor Verde del Oeste passenger rail project in Buenos Aires city has begun and will take two years, the city government reported. The 750m section of the overall 10km project entails building infrastructure to allow aboveground portions of the Sarmiento rail line to run underground between Once and General Paz avenues. The city plans to convert the surface space where the train used to run into green areas. Company Vialmani was awarded the first stage contract in November after submitting an offer of 28.9mn pesos (US$10mn). The Inter-American Development Bank will help finance the works.
