BWSL address public concerns

Bnamericas
Belize's Prime Minister Said Musa and finance minister Ralph Fonseca met with representatives of Belize Water Services Ltd. (BWSL) and the public utilities commission to address public concerns, the government announced. The meeting addressed issues such as quality of services and water rates, as well as general operations and expansion of the company's services. Customers may misperceive that the water bills have increased, but the BSWL said that following a project to upgrade non-functioning water meters, the new meters are recording with efficiency the actual consumption, the statement added. Future plans include construction of elevated tanks in Corozal, Orange Walk and Dangriga and stand-by generators in the case of electricity cuts. Belize Water Services Limited is the private operator of the national water and sewerage authority (BWSL) and receives drinking water from a reverse osmosis seawater conversion plant in Ambergris Caye, the largest island off of the Belizean coast. In January, BWSL formally objected to the public utilities commission's decision to hike rates by an average of 15%, BNamericas previously reported.
