Banking sector posts Jan-Oct. profits of US$91mn

The Guatemalan banking sector saw total net profits of 738mn quetzales (US$91.3mn) for the January to October period, Prensa Libre newspaper reported, citing figures from the country's banking regulator. The amount was more than double total earnings in the first nine months of this year, the paper said. Banco Industrial proved to be the country's highest profit generator posting earnings of 136mn quetzals, followed by G&T Continental (83mn quetzals) and Banco Agromercantil (72mn quetzals). The 24 banks operating in the local banking system racked in US$366mn in revenues from financial services from January to October this year, the report said.
