CFE to award Encino contract Dec.22
Bnamericas Published: Thursday, December 18, 2003
Mexico's state power company CFE will award a contract for the conversion of the El Encino thermoelectric plant in Chihuahua to combined cycle from open cycle on December 22, a CFE source told BNamericas. The contract, the last the CFE will award this year, will be signed on January 23. Work is scheduled to start the same month and be complete by March 1, 2006. The CFE received offers from Spanish companies Isolux Wat, Iberdrola, Abener and Dragados, the source said. The contract is for the design, engineering, supply, installation and start up of the unit, which should have from 55-78MW capacity, the source said. Encino, also known as Chihuahua II, started operations May-June 2001 and has 150MW installed capacity. The Norelec del Norte specific purpose company, 100% owned by Japan's Mitsubishi, built the plant under a build-lease-transfer (BLT) contract.
