CHICO urges govt. to pay up

Honduras' construction chamber (CHICO) has urged the government to pay construction companies 60mn lempiras (US$3.41mn) it owes them for roadwork maintenance contracts so these can be completed before winter sets in, La Tribuna reported. The chamber had requested from the government 800mn lempiras (US$45.6mn) in roadwork contracts for the 2004 budget, CHICO President Elvin Santos Sandoval was quoted as saying, but added it was necessary to pay up for existing contracts, some of which were signed five months ago and have still not received funds.
