CSN develops steel can for powdered soap

Brazilian steelmaker CSN (NYSE: SID) has developed a steel can for packaging powered soap in partnership with local can maker Brasilata, AE-Setorial news service reported. The steelmaker has been seeking to work in an integrated fashion with the entire production chain. "Thereby we can attend to the needs of the final consumer having the knowledge, agility and quality required to make steel the most adequate solution for packaging," Sergio Iunis, head of marketing at CSN, was quoted as saying. About 25% or some 1Mt/y of all the steel sold by CSN goes toward making steel packaging. The steelmaker has invested US$30mn in the improvement and modernization of its metallic sheets product lines. Rio de Janeiro-based CSN has an installed steelmaking capacity of 6Mt/y.
