CVRD to build Ceara steel mill with Italians, Koreans

Brazilian mining giant Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) is negotiating the final details of a joint venture with Danieli of Italy and Dongkuk of Korea for a steel mill to be built in the northeastern state of Ceara, business daily Valor Econômico reported Monday. The partnership should be formalized by the end of the year. The project is valued at US$570mn, Valor said. The so-called Usina Siderurgica do Ceara (USC) is designed to produce 1.5Mt of steel slabs a year, according to Giovanni Coassin, sales director with Danieli. by Sergio Caldas
