Canadian energy company TransAlta's 252MW Campeche combined-cycle gas and diesel-fueled power plant in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula contributed Cdn$13.4mn to the company's second quarter revenues, the company said in a supplementary report to its second quarter results. The plant produced 197GWh and its availability was 95.5%, the report said. TransAlta (NYSE:TAC) also plans to start operations of its 259MW Chihuahua plant next month, CEO Steve Snyder said in a conference call to discuss second quarter results. "Our Chihuahua plant hit all its second quarter milestones and is scheduled to start operations in August," he said. The plant will help the company increase its generating capacity during the remainder of 2003, the statement said. TransAlta announced 2Q03 earnings from continuing operations of Cdn$23.3mn (Cdn$0.12 per common share), compared to Cdn$15.7mn (Cdn$0.09 per share) for the same period in 2002.
