Celesc to offer 45MW at small-scale hydro auction Friday

Bnamericas
Brazil's Santa Catarina state power distributor Celesc will hold an auction Friday to sell 45MW from its 12 small-scale hydroelectric plants to a target group of commercial, industrial and rural clients in the south and southeast of Brazil, AE Setorial reported. Contracts will be for eight years and can start at any time between January 1, 2005 and July 1, 2006. Celesc set the minimum price at 80.66 reais/MWh, despite prices in Tuesday's mega-auction of power from 55,000MW of existing capacity ranging between 66 and 74 reais/MWh for contracts starting delivery in 2005-2006. Brazilian distributors were previously allowed to generate 30% of the power they distribute, but lost that right under the new power sector model. Celesc has already contracted the power it needs for 2005.
